Preparing For the New Year

As I sip Christmas punch, the faint scent of pine in the air, my family at my side leisurely watching movies and sharing laughs I can’t help but reflect on the past 359 days. The holiday season often brings with it the evaluation of the year soon gone and the hope for what’s to come.

There are many things that I look forward to at the start of January including my birthday. Every year brings a different feeling and a unique motivation to propel myself forward. This year in particular I feel the need to simply be ready, ready to receive all of the blessings I’ve worked and prayed for but also ready for new challenges. We often say “I need to get my life together” as if it means our lives will somehow be completely stable like calm waters when we’re done. I’m beginning to learn that being “together” is more of an internal thing. No matter how much you plan, life will always be in flux around you - it’s your body, mind, and spirit that need to be at peace in order to deal with the ever-changing world.

In the next 14 days we will welcome 2019 and I will be officially one year older. I’ll be using this time to steady myself: work out for my best health and body, drink more water for clear skin, meditate and pray to become more in tune with my ideal self and God, spend time with family to create memories we’ll all cherish, and start journaling again to clear my mind. We can’t predict what life will throw at us be we can show up as our best selves to handle it all.
